As Head of Performing Arts in a boys school, there are certain limitations on what musicals we’re able to put on.
This edition of HMS Pinafore, set in the 21st century aboard a modern naval vessel, has an updated storyline with female characters removed (how would all those cousins and aunts just turn up on the boat anyway?!) and a fresh orchestration in a more contemporary music-theatre style with plenty of Jazz and Big Band influences.
Having now performed this edition with my own students, I’m making it available for anyone else who finds themself in the same situation as me.
