A short Christmas carol, written for TTBB with a treble soloist.
(Downloads - 3)
Description
This short, gentle piece was written for the one of my school choirs, which explains the slightly unusual voicing. The original scoring was for lower voices (TTBB), with a treble voice over the top, but if would be quite possible for altos to sing the higher tenor part, or for the solo to be sung by a tenor an octave lower – let me know how you do it!

Selected verses from a Chester manuscript, c. 1425
Translation:
He who made the starry skies
Sleeping in a manger lies
Ruler of the centuries
Humbly clad, the King of kings
Joys of heav’n to earth he brings
Sweet above all earthly things
Mother, pray thy sweet childing
Us eternal joys to bring
That his praises we may sing
Whilst we run this earthly race
Then throughout all time and space
May he grant us hope and grace
Denis Stevens (1922–2004; vv. 1, 2 & 4),
John A. Parkinson (1920–?; vs. 3)
